AMAZE

Darrell Byrd

Papa

conch shells
over the door
cigar butts on the floor
some key lime pie, before I die
papa

Published in Ku Nouveau, Summer 2001.

Slow Hands

slow hands
soft candlelight
Mozart and sweet red wine
soft lips touch my ear promising
rapture

Revised since published in Ku Nouveau, Summer 2001.

Turquoise

her eyes
bright as agate
shining in the moonlight
Apache tears in desert pools
turquoise

The Guadalupe Rim

snow swirls
through the canyons
on Guadalupe Rim
my pony's head down, our backs feel
the wind

Typhoon

typhoon
dark rain and wind
seas on the port quarter
for three days we heave, pitch and roll
sea sick

Published in World Haiku Review, August 2001.

the sea
boomed in the night
as we lay on the sand
her breathing on my cheek, soft as
her hand
