AMAZE

Deborah Beachboard

Solo

Tonight
I am alone,
and thoughts of you become
the only music in my mind
again

While I Sleep

Let my
grief vanish like
dew from dark violets
into the sun, leaving only
velvet.

Morning Birds

Full voice,
a madrigal
to orchestrate the dawn
cotillion of light and color
filled sky.

Style

The blush
of a woman;
the ancient instrument
Aphrodite used to inscribe
her name.

Because Love Came
(for Jim)

Swiftly
pass the moments,
minutes and hours—sunups
and sundowns—of a lifetime spent
with you.

Nightmare

I close
my eyes to dream,
but the image I find
is you walking out and shutting
the door.
