AMAZE

Hortensia Anderson

Montauk Point in My Childhood

First dawn
seeming to come
from deep within the sea
then rises with the waves to light
the sky.

First dusk
deepens the blue
and swirled empurpled sea
then darkening in rich velvet
the sky.

On the Grass

Bower
of pink roses
all the fallen petals
gathered by the wind and once more
scattered.

Ruins

Fragments
of poetry
echo throughout the room
these anguished words still trapped inside
locked hearts.

A Kiss of Rose

Petals
upon my face
I feel the silken sweep
of an American Beauty
in bloom.

On the Library

Sunlight
slanting sideways
along the red brick wall
slides across the English Ivy
softly.

A Night's Daydream

Farewell
she says in pale
green silken gown
beneath a fragrant tree laden
with plums.

Music of the Spheres

Stillness,
before the wind
sweeps through the verandah
playing an occasional chord
on chimes

like stars
the hollow tubes shimmer a tune
until the finale
after the wind—
silence.
