Sundog
Horsemen
These ghosts
are the horsemen
who once hunted the plains
astride the clouds: Sundogs before
the wind --
They ride
at morning the grassland's green sweep
and in the heat of noon
drink the clean light
from streams.
Portrait, Made at Greybull River
Sketching
a sun-aged face
in pencil --- this father
of the Lakota, his thousand
rivers.
