snow fort 
ammunition
packed hard and stacked with mitts,
air glazed with icy breath, we wait
for war

Walking home after school

captured
by the bullies
of Fifth Avenue Lane
punched by a girl who will become 
a nun

 

The Epiphany

backyard
during winter
in the sun that glitters
on the ice lying around me
I'm three
