The
Dating Show
(an
experimental merged cinquain sequence)
A man
is on a
date
with two women at a
dance club. In
minutes he’ll decide
between the two.
One pockets him
off the dance floor, pushes
him into the women’s room, shoves
her tongue
into
his mouth. A slack
of pant leans against her
tight rope of thong:
she’s really got
him pinned
against
this wall. When he
returns blinking to the
dance floor, the woman left behind
holds up
two gifts,
a shot glass full
of tequila and a
white cocktail napkin with something
written
on it.
Whether it was
what she wrote or that she
wrote it, it was not enough or
it was
too much,
and so he sent
her packing with nothing
but her own words to recall the
night by.
